It was built as a debt of gratitude for the liberation from the plague epidemic that scypped Venice during 1575-1576. During this epidemic period, more than 46,000 people, equivalent to 25-30 percent of the population, died. The Senate commissioned the great architect Andrea Palladio to design the church. Construction work started in May 1577. The structure was at a satisfactory level and was consecrated in 1592.
Very nice. You need to pay €3 to enter or €12 to see all the churches on the island and immediate surrounds.
Absolute Masterpiece, inside and out. Built by Palladio as a Votive Church as a Thank you for overcoming a plague. It was consecrated in 1592
🎟 we bought a Vaporetto pass online, which we exchanged at a booth outside the Santa Lucia train station = this way we could criss cross Venice, without bothering to get a ticket. And sometime they give you priority boarding
An incredibly beautiful 16th century Catholic church in Venice that you should visit. It is available to see from afar when one enters Venice via boat.
The church is in good condition.
Nice place and calm.
Even for me it is difficult to understand why I should pay to visit a church. 3 Euro 💶 for person was the ticket 🎫.
It's too much for one church but calculating for all the churches and similar monuments in Venice it's not more than 3 💶.
Except this particular church is in good condition and very beautiful.
Beautiful church like all Churches in Venice. Free to enter and 6 euros to take a lift to the bell tower and see the amazing view of Venice. Well worth it!
Very good service, always available concierge. Luxury and clean!
If you're visiting Venice it is not a top of the list place.
A short boat ride from St Marks square, lovely place to visit. Worth paying the few euros to take the lift up to the bell tower. Views are spectacular. Very peaceful and serene.
Great views from this spot on Giudecca Island.
